Gemology includes study of gem stones, diamonds, jewellery manufacturing and jewellery designing. It is the technical study of diamonds and other gems, jewellery manufacturing etc. With the advancement in technology, Computer aided designing and manufacturing CAD/CAM are used to design jewellery.
The gems & jewellery industry is one of the largest earners for our country. The Indian diamond industry is known worldwide as a major cutting and polishing centre.
Jewellery designer create design and gives a new look to ornaments made out of gold, silver, and precious gems. They have to keep up with the changing trends, styles and demands of the people. They may specialise as iGernologists' who are experts in assessing the value of precious stones and do identification, sorting, grading and cutting of gems.
Jewellery designers generally work for established gold smiths or as free lancers while Accessory designers work for established dress designers or manufactures.
